This Week's Best Stuff on the Internet

It's a little long, but if you have some time, listen to this dad's talk on bravery.

Remember the Halloween Blizzard of 1991? If you lived in Minnesota at the time, it's impossible to forget. Here's some photographic evidence of why this event has been branded in so many brains

Haters gonna hate: Check out these nasty ol' comments about the iPod when it originally hit shelves. All I can say is Steve Jobs is LOL-ing somewhere out there.

It's hygge season, friends. Time to buy some candles, make some soup and invest in some comfy blankets/sweats/sweaters.

My friend Katie was a little uneasy about buying a house down the street from her parents. It ended up being the best decision ever.

This Week's Best Stuff on the Internet

I actually went to this TEDx event, & Tom Fisher's talk about over-consumption stuck with me. Watch it & I can nearly guarantee you'll feel the same.

My favorite thing on the Internet this week BY FAR: Rick Steve's is the Original Hipster

Do you love factory tours? Here's a guide to all zee best ones in the USA

Hosting a Halloween party? Here's some delightful (and almost free) games ideas.

This was delightful: the story of the Ermahgerd Girl.

Are you a fan of Back to the Future? Then you will probably love the above video.

Oh, Norway. You're so progressive! (link spoiler: Olso is banning cars in its city center).

Yet one more reason to not feel any sort of guilt about your crush on Bradley Cooper: He's going to start sharing his salary with his female co-stars. And he speaks fluent French (not related, but also hot).

Elizabeth Gilbert has all the answers.

Thanks for all your thoughtful comments on my post about miscarriage this week. Totally amazed at how many of your shared, commented, and sent me emails about your own story. We need to be talking about this more.

This Week's Best Stuff on the Internet

Shocker: This anti-drunk driving commercial made me cry.

I so excited that the Lynx won the WNBA Championship! I was even more excited to learn the story behind the Lynx's senior dance team. These women in their 60s and 70s bring their A-game to halftime. I dare you to watch this video and not smile

As someone who does a lot of social media for a living, I totally identified with this piece about how tech devalues social media workers. When people say things like, "Why would I pay someone to do my social media when I could just hire an unpaid intern?", I tell them this: Say you were going to have an employee speak to a room of 500 people on your company's behalf. Would you ask a seasoned pro to do that, or a 22-year-old unpaid intern? Now, think about how many Facebook & Twitter followers you have. Hundreds? Thousands? Tens of thousands? You're allowing whomever runs your social accounts to speak on behalf of your company to ALL of those people, often daily! Do you really want that to be an intern? Exactly.

Famous quotes, the way a woman would have to say them during a meeting. THIS IS 100 PERCENT TRUE. It's so difficult to be direct-- nearly every time I've tried, it's come across as very bitchy.

Check out this ridic resort. I wanna go to Nicaragua right now.

Why your brain loves good storytelling.

Pssst! Let's be friends on the Internet!

This Week's Best Stuff on the Internet

If this video doesn't put a smile on your face, I'm not sure you can be helped. 90-years-old and dancing like a maniac

I used to obsessively pour over the Craigslist missed connections. I even found a few for my friends! This one, however, might take the cake. Read with a Kleenex.

A pre-K teacher's thoughts on lockdown drills. Heartbreaking.

Of course I loved this illustrated life advice from the creator of Calvin & Hobbs, Bill Watterson,

In case you haven't read it yet, a firsthand account of the Prince/Madonna party at Paisley Park

It may be decorative gourd season, but personally, I prefer to cook with gourds. How 'bout this butternut squash soup with crispy pancetta?

This Week's Best Stuff on the Internet

Hey-o! It's October, and that means I'll be watching scary movies all month long. What are some of your favorites? My hubby used to think Pet Sematary was the scariest movie of all time... until he recently re-watched it. As it turns out, 80s horror did not age well. Except in the case of The Shining

I went to a pizza farm with The Midwestival. I helped with the food styling (not too shabby, I must say!), but mostly helped with the eating.

My friend Samantha Brown (aka the girl with the best job in the world!) returns to Travel Channel tonight with an awesome, brand new series: 50/50. You can read all about the insane premise here, then tune in tonight at 7pm ET!

When a friend is going through some serious shiz, you don't want to say the wrong thing. Trouble is, most of us just don't know what to say, PERIOD. Here's a diagram that's super-de-duper helpful

Long live La Croix! I resonate with #18 especially.

Please tell me I'm not the only one eye-rolling over this Demi Lovato publicity stunt. I mean, I'm happy about her new found confidence in her body. Really, that's great! But this isn't really about you, it's about selling your new album, Confident. I dunno, the whole thing feels disingenuous. PS as far as I know, I've never been airbrushed and nobody's calling me brave for it. You know who's actually brave? This woman. And this guy

And because I dislike ending things on a downer note, anyone in the Twin Cities looking for a sweet doggie to add to their family? Raven is staying with us this weekend and she's simply lovely. Low-key, loves to snuggle, good with people, cats, other dogs and kids. Read more about her here.

This Week's Best Stuff on the Internet

So this video was absolutely gripping and moving and wow, she is really beautiful.

I'm not embarrassed to admit I was obsessed with Jackie Collins as a teenager. I am sure my parents were so proud. I love this piece about how her books changed the way we think about sex. xoxo I love you, Jackie Collins!

Serial season two is on its way and here's the story. I can't wait! I can't wait! I CAN'T WAIT!

I try not to think about these things cause my doggie is my best bud, but here's an important read: The Biggest Mistake Pet Owners Make at the End.

According to science, this is the most feel-good song of all time. Call me crazy, but science could've saved its time and money 'cause DUH of course that is the most feel-good song of all time!

Think you're not biased when it comes to gender, race or inequality? I thought so too... until I took this Harvard survey. As it turns out, I'm pretty sexist m'self (see below... eeeek!). Dare you to take one of these surveys and not walk away humbled and a wee bit ashamed.

Speaking of our collective flaws when it comes to women in the workplace, this was an enlightening read.

I found the perfect fall/winter booties and they are these ones
