Would You Rat Out Your Own Family?
Did you watch "The Jinx" on HBO? Josh and I did, and boy oh boy, was it ever riveting!
The gist: Bob Durst, a gazillionaire real estate scion, allegedly killed his wife, best friend and neighbor over the past 30 years. Of course, because he swims in money a la Scrooge McDuck, he's hired top notch lawyers to get him off the hook... even when he admitted to killing a guy in self-defense, then cut up his body and dumped it in Galveston Bay.
Because that's how a self-defense situation normally plays out.
Anyhow, at one point in the documentary, filmmakers alluded to the fact that Durst's father and brother *might* have had some information that would've shown Robert had indeed murdered his wife, Kathie, in 1982.
So with that in mind, here's this week's ridiculous question.
* * *
“You receive a phone call from your local police department stating your brother’s spouse is missing. The police have reason to suspect foul play, and naturally, your brother is their prime suspect.
You love your brother and have a soft spot for him. He’s always been the black sheep of the family, while you were always the family favorite. You know you were given more opportunities than your brother, and secretly carry a tremendous amount of guilt.
In some ways, you can’t imagine your brother could actually commit murder, especially somebody as sweet and thoughtful as your sister-in-law. That said, just before his wife went missing, he said some very bizarre things to you, in confidence, on the phone. Stuff that, now in retrospect, might be crucial information for the investigation.
Do you share what your brother told you with the police, knowing it could put him behind bars forever? Would it make any difference if the person you brother is suspected of killing was a real jerk instead of your kind sister-in-law? ”
If you don't have a brother, envision a sister or very close childhood friend. Go!
