#1: Start Big, All-encompassing, Overwhelming Blog Project.
This lady said a lot of smart things. There was this:
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
And this:
You must do the things you think you cannot do.
And also this gem:
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.
(I guess I am great, average AND small minded)
But the words that most spoke to me are these:
Do one thing every day that scares you.
I've seen this quote printed on yoga bags, scrawled on vision boards (if you don't know, Google it), typed in tiny font on strips of paper inside fortune cookies. They're certainly great words to live by, but what exactly does doing stuff that scares the crap out of you really look like? I don't have the opportunity to swim with sharks or jump out of an airplane every day. If I did, I'd probably be dead by now (or at least have some really cool scars). Major phobias are easy to conjure up; but there are probably lots of small things you face on the daily that you farm out, avoid completely or barely even take note of because you're so entrenched in a routine. Fear to me is anything outside of my cozy comfort zone.
For the next year, I'll be tackling my fears, one by one. I can't decide what scares me the most: keeping pace with one post a day, actually having to do a lot of things that make me uncomfortable, ridicule from Internet trolls... just to name a few. However, in the short time I've been living life through Eleanor Roosevelt's lens, I've already noticed some major changes. And for the most part, they're awesome. As much as thinking about this next year puts knots in my belly, I'm excited about it. Bring it on!
